The pumping energy transfer station (PETS), a proven mass storage solution to support the integration of renewable energies.
For the mass storage of excess energy from renewable sources, there is a proven solution that is still too little used: pumped energy transfer stations or WWTPs. These pumped hydroelectric installations consume excess electricity during off-peak consumption hours to produce it again during peak consumption periods.
PETSs developed from the 1970s to optimize the operation of large thermal and nuclear power plants, they are currently experiencing a new boom in the world due to the growing role of intermittent renewable energies such as wind power and solar photovoltaic .
Storing renewable energies with other renewable energy is still the best optimized solution towards the energy autonomy of a territory.
