The notion of consumer actor has developed thanks to the dissemination of the concept of sustainable development. It covers, in particular, aspects of social responsibility of the consumer-citizen.
In addition to these social transformations which favor the emergence of a consumer actor, there are transformations in the electricity system. Indeed, the development of distributed electricity production places the consumer in a situation of energy production. Until now hierarchical and centralized, the electricity system becomes decentralized and two-way.
Advanced electricity metering is part of this development which requires the development of intelligent “smart grids” networks, and of which it constitutes the point of exit – but also of entry.
An advanced metering system involves, on the one hand, the installation of smart meters capable of storing the information resulting from the measurements and, on the other hand, the establishment of data transmission systems allowing circulation. rapid and reliable information contained in the meters between the consumer-producer and the network operators.
