Stimulated by the development of digital technologies, participatory financing “Also called crowdfunding” has become an innovative and mobilizing lever for the financing of projects linked to the energy and ecological transition.
Already practiced in history, for example to finance the Statue of Liberty, crowdfunding was born in its current forms (donation, loan, investment) in the early 2000s. From 2010, social networks allowed its real boom with solutions offered by digital technology, which have developed in multiple areas (social and professional relations, solidarity, business world, etc.).
Crowdfunding covers a multiple reality, there are 4 types of operations:
✔The donation without consideration; ✔The donation with counterpart (or Reward-based Crowdfunding); ✔The loan (or Crowdlending); ✔And finally, the purchase of corporate shares (or Crowdinvesting) or (Equitycrowdfunding).
This classification is the most common although it is not exhaustive, as crowdfunding is gradually opening up to new financial products.
